Despite the lack of oxygen, true love burns as an inextinguishable fire. We often confuse love with heat. Heat warms the body. Love warms the soul. As a Man who has failed at love, I have learned how to love. You see, love that leaves forever isn’t love, it’s a lesson. Like many lessons, some are tougher than others. However, for me, my toughest lesson gave me my greatest reward. My toughest lesson taught me limits. It taught me fulfillment. It taught me the desires of my heart and mind rather than the finite desires of my body. I have learned that love is a light in times of darkness. It is a map when we are lost. It is a shoulder when we are weak. It is truth. Love is. I have wasted time, but time has never given up on me. Despite the cracks in my heart, love still burns. Love burns because it knows that my spirit isn’t done. As the best of me is yet to come, so is the best of love. This is love for me. I love watching my love smile. Her smile is a gift that I could open a thousand times on the same day and still be surprised each time I open it. I love her hair. As it shines in the sun, it changes color depending on the direction of the sun. It’s golden in the morning, and it shines with red beams towards the evening. Her lips. Each of them seem to speak a different language. One speaks gently, while the other speaks fire. I am fluent in both of those languages. I love her eyes. As they watch me, I am glad that they haven’t chosen to look elsewhere. I am so blessed. I love her skin. Brown skin with caramel hues and gentle splashes of vanilla. She is delicious. I love her hands. Each of her knuckles leaves a dimple that will never be filled with tears caused by cruelty. I love her shoulders; so beautiful, yet so strong. I love her legs. Indescribable. I love her feet. The soles are just as soft as the top. I love that she loves me. I love that she loves me despite the depression that convinces me otherwise. I love that she sees the me that I wish I could see. I love that she laughs at my jokes. I love that she knows when my silence is due to confusion rather than callousness. I love that she routes for me when no one else does. I love that she believes that tomorrow is something that should include me too. I love that she believes that we are family. I love that she looks into my eyes each time as though she has discovered something new. I love that she sometimes holds my hands in order to reassure me that everything is going to be okay. I love that she appreciates my chocolate skin with caramel hues and gentle splashes of burned orange. Despite the lack of oxygen, true love burns as an inextinguishable fire. Mankind cannot extinguish it because mankind didn’t create it. True love is a gift from God that cannot be returned or exchanged. In the end, why would anyone want to? I may sound like a broken record, but love is the reason. It is the why. It is the what. It is the when. It is the where. It is the how. Who is up to you. However, I must remind you that you are the who for someone. Be patient. Please don’t confuse now with forever. Love is yours. Trust and wait in love, for I promise you, it will be worth the wait….Patrick
As always, this week, please do something for someone other than yourself for no reason at all other than to make their lives better. Also, if you make it to where you’re going, please don’t forget to leave a map for the rest of us. Always Choose Love Because Love Changes Everything.
