Derek Chauvin was found guilty, and as an African American Man, I am satisfied. While I am not completely, happy, I will say that I’m satisfied. I’m satisfied because this is a start. It’s the beginning of a very clear message that hurting my people comes with consequences. Blame….For most of my life, I have found myself blaming some for crimes that they have never committed. Inversely, I have been angry because some have treated me like I have committed crimes that I have never committed. As I have grown, I have grown to understand. I blame me for my conditions. I blame me for blaming the things that have hurt me as a reason for not becoming all that I am. I blame me for using blame as a reason to not do. Again, I blame me for using blame as a reason to not do. To those that choose to blame me for their conditions, I say blame me. Blame me until you begin to understand and recognize that we are all to blame. I’m hurt and you’re afraid. Pain and fear are rarely key ingredients in any recipe worth repeating. Rather than passing blame, I accept that I am my own worst enemy. I accept that I am my best friend. I accept that good exists within you. I accept that blaming me has created the worst within you. I accept me for blaming you for the worst that has existed inside of me. No one is to blame. If there is, their existence cannot, and should not, be enough for the acceptance of our current conditions. Forgive me. I promise to forgive you. What shall we do with this forgiveness that we have just given? I know. Let’s create the world that we all dreamed of with enough room for all of us. Let’s create a world in which the words Love and Community actually mean something. Let’s create a world in which different colors perpetuate different, yet beautiful and powerful, meanings. Let’s create a world in which race only means that those who have race to meet the needs of those that don’t have the same. As I have inadvertently given freedom to those that have hurt me, I also free me. Black Lives Matter because All Lives Should Matter. If I say that Black Lives Matter, it’s because I feel that my own does not. iMatter. I blame me. I forgive you. I say that we should begin to listen, learn, accept, and grow. I hold these truths to be self evident that all huemans are created equally….The world can be a better place. I pray that it starts with me….Patrick
As always, this week, please do something for someone other than yourself for no other reason that to make their lives better. Also, if you make it to where you’re going, please don’t forget to leave a map for the rest of us. Always Choose Love Because Love Changes Everything….
